Lochlands Garden Centre hit by blaze

Published: 26 August 2009
More than 20 firefighters battled to bring the fire under control in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Flames at Lochlands Garden Centre in Angus near Forfar could be seen for miles, as fire ripped through the restaurant area and shop at the garden centre complex.

Fire crews were called to the scene on Dundee Road at around 2.20am on Tuesday, August 25, where 22 firefighters battled for two and a half hours to get the blaze under control.

Proprietor William Stewart is reported to be devastated by the incident but relieved that no one was hurt, as the building was empty at the time.

Crews remained at the garden centre for some time to dampen down the building and cut away damaged parts of the structure.

The fire service and Tayside Police are carrying out a joint investigation into how the blaze started and are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with information should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
