Kingfisher boss Ian Cheshire takes over BRC

Published: 28 September 2012
The newest chairman of the British Retail Consortium started his new job on Monday, October 1. B&Q boss Ian Cheshire succeeds Rob Templeman, who will be staying on as deputy for another year.
Mr Cheshire has been group chief executive of Kingfisher plc since January 2008 and an executive director since June 2000. The announcement that he was to take top spot at the BRC was made in August, alongside the news of the new director general Helen Dickinson, who will take over in January.

BRC director general Stephen Robertson said: "I'd like to thank Rob for his dedicated and valuable work on behalf of the BRC and the retail sector and to welcome Ian as his successor.

"Ian is an outstanding serving chief executive with a rich understanding of retail and of the political process. I benefited from his inspirational leadership during my own years at Kingfisher and am very much looking forward to working with him as he becomes BRC Chairman."
