Published: 16 November 2017 - Kiran Grewal

Local shoppers were out in force today when Wilko opened its doors at Fort Kinnaird Shopping Centre, Edinburgh yesterday. Queues outside the new store started forming at 6.30am with more than 300 shoppers keen to get a first look at the new Wilko store.

The first 100 customers received prizes including Wilko gift cards and a selection of copper kitchen appliances, while also enjoying free hot chocolate and an entertaining speed sketcher in store.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by a representative from the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland and Wilko Retail Director Anthony Houghton. While store manager Charlotte Connell presented the charity with a cheque for £250.

Wilko will also be hosting additional entertainment including stilt walkers at the store, and staff will also be handing out Christmas cards and bags for life on Saturday 4 November.

There will also be a festive day on Saturday 2 December with a brass band and a hot chocolate stall.

Wilko Fort Kinnaird Shopping Centre Store Manager Charlotte Connell said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local people, it’s been a very positive start to our residence here at the Fort Kinnaird Shopping Centre and we can’t wait to welcome more customers to the new store.”
