The company has moved from Burleigh Street to 2,000sq ft premises in Cherry Hinton Road, thereby doubling its sales space. The new store was formerly occupied by Darling & Wood, which Hughes acquired last year.

Lowestoft-based Hughes Electrical is now the country's fourth largest specialist electrical retailer, expanding with the acquisition of Apollo 2000 in 2009 and part of Bennetts Retail in 2011, after that business went into administration. It re-opened six of Bennetts' stores, whose out-of-town locations were seen as a good complement to Hughes' smaller stores in high street locations.

Hughes also has a 70,000 sq ft distribution facility in Thetford.
