Houseproud DIY closes after 33 years

Carlisle-based store will shut its doors at the end of the month
Proprietors Tony Pirt and Ken Armstrong have reluctantly taken the decision to close down Houseproud as a result of the economic climate.

Both former craft teachers, Mr. Pirt and Mr. Armstrong had a good knowledge of diy when they set up shop. They worked to build up the business, stocking everything the average diyer would need.

The shop also offered a cutting service, blade repairs and Black & Decker repairs.

Mr Pirt now plans to focus on his curtain track business. He said: "It is an Aladdin's cave... It has always been an old-fashioned diy shop where service and quality were the main priorities. We are very sad that we are having to close."

The shop is due to shut on March 31 and is currently holding a closing down sale.
