Homebase launches interactive touch screens

Published: 9 September 2011
Homebase has launched 'Create the Look' touch screens at its Aylesford branch to help customers visualise different products in their homes.
Customers at the Kent store can upload a photo of their lounge, kitchen, bedroom or bathroom to a 32" interactive touch screen, or can create a look using a template room to choose flooring, paint or wallpaper designs.

The interactive screens have been provided by customer flow management company Qmatic and web developer HintTech and use real images of the wallpaper and flooring, working out the correct perspectives and keeping light and shadow to offer a realistic image.

According to Homesbase, 1,605 interactions occurred in the first month since the screens were introduced, with 428 room designs printed. The retailer expects to roll the screens out to more stores after 99% of all the customers using one said they found it useful.

Qmatic head of digital media Stuart Batt said: "Customers are amazed at the levels of help and service available from this product and are impressed with how easy it is to upload your own photo. Digital media provides an opportunity for stores like Homebase to provide a service that helps customers make decisions while presenting opportunities to increase customer purchases."
