Hardware shops all pass council knife 'sting'

Published: 3 April 2009
Bracknell Forest Council's trading standards department checked ten DIY shops with all passing the controversial 'sting' tests.

The council used volunteers who were aged under 18 to visit the hardware shops and other retailers in the area.

However, a month earlier a similar operation had seen five out of 20 outlets checked fail the controversial test where youths buy age restricted items.

The maximum fine for selling a knife to a person aged under 18 is £5,000 and or six months in prison, however retailers are unlikely to be jailed or receive the maximum fine.

How many were done in court after the first sting?
Or did the council issue warnings and follow it up a month later?
