Gardman streamlines operations

Published: 7 June 2012
Gardman announces plans to relocate all production operations for its wild bird foods to a single site in Kings Lynn, leading to the closure of its plants in Devon and Moulton.
Gardman streamlines operations
The move will centralise the sourcing and packing operations for Gardman Group and help ensure the supply of products for Gardman's retail customers and consumers, said the firm. However, the centralisation of the wild bird food sourcing and mixing operation has resulted in the closure of Gardman's mixing facility in Devon and also the relocation of its packaging operations from Moulton, Lincolnshire, to Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

The company said the new facilities are designed to increase efficiencies and streamline production, whilst building in flexibility to meet spikes in demand. "This move has been carefully planned for more than a year," said purchasing director Jason Smith.

In addition, Gardman has completed a review of its warehouse operations and will vacate two satellite warehouses in the coming weeks. Operations director Dan Meadows said: "Although we have been running our main operations from Kings Lynn for many years, we also retained warehouses in a couple of more remote locations.

The changes we are making now complete the plan we put in place just over a year ago when we moved into a bigger facility in Kings Lynn. The co-location of our production operations with warehousing clearly makes sense and will save thousands of road miles each year, in addition to improving our service levels even further."

Gardman chief executive Mark Pearson added: "These moves are an important investment for Gardman and give us a sound foundation to support future growth."
