Fryer delivers burns, cuts and electric shocks

Published: 6 August 2012
An electric fryer that exposes users to no fewer than three different kinds of danger has been recalled.
Fryer delivers burns, cuts and electric shocks
The Princess brand 4 litre, 2,000W Pro product is in stainless steel with a metallic lid, and has a chip basket, filter, vat and vat base. However, the fryer also has some hidden features - which can deliver burns, cuts and electric shocks.

Metallic parts that are accessible when the fryer is being used reach too high a temperature, and the edges of the metallic lid are sharp. The earth terminals are not sufficiently fastened in place, and there is insufficient protection of live parts. Creepage distances are also insufficient.

The Chinese-made fryer, model number 182004, does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard EN 60335.

The authorities have ordered the compulsory withdrawal of the product from the market and recall from end users.
