Five mix & match flooring trends

Published: 6 December 2022 - Neil Mead

Floors are shaking off their shrinking violet reputation and playing a lead part in setting the tone in home design. We look at five inspirational mix and match trends that cleverly use contrasting colours and finishes for that ultimate signature floor.

Quick-Step has made it easy to combine floor colours and patterns with click systems featuring across their laminate and vinyl collections, making it easy to combine floor colours and patterns. The additional benefits of this simple but advanced system mean an enthusiastic DIYer can fit the floor without too much fuss.

Open-plan rooms and contemporary designs have continued to play a key part in home interiors, and defining functionality can pose a problem. Using the floor to dictate the space and its use leaves plenty of scope for getting creative with colours, patterns and styles.

Grand entrance spaces, such as hallways lend themselves well to traditional patterned parquet while dining and leisure areas can take on a more informal approach with traditional boards adding that mellow aesthetic.

Contemporary twist

While cool and pale neutrals create peaceful spaces, too much white can result in a clinical interior. The mixed use of boards in light palettes can add a contemporary twist that works with light backdrops.

Impressive laminate takes the traditional looks and geometric designs of natural woods resulting in a perfect flooring partner for modern homes.

Nature-Inspired

Creating nature-inspired schemes continues to be a popular trend. From the looks of real wood to natural stone, the ability to mix and match both texture and tones result in an opportunity to create bespoke look floors for all styles of interiors.

Bold and dynamic

Painted floors are not new, but the practicality and ongoing maintenance could dissuade consumers from recreating the look. The Capture collection includes a painted oak range in monochrome blacks and whites that can be combined to provide a bold and visually dynamic floor.

Blush neutrals continue to provide homeowners with an exciting and versatile colour palette. However, those not wishing to fully immerse themselves in pink can now mix and match boards to add a highlight. Paired with light whites and greys achieves a calming balance with plenty of colour interest.
