The National Gardening Show
31/08/2012, Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallett, Somerset BA4 6QN, 3 days
A day at the National Gardening Show is an ideal day out for gardening fans, showcasing the best in Autumn gardening with lots of unique features including advice from experts, and help for how to grow your own plants and vegetables.
The Bright Green Shoots initiative returns to showcase most interesting entrepreneurs in the horticultural and gardening world. The showcase gardens will once again be top of everyone's list to visit. There will an array of different themed gardens to inspire, challenge and intrigue.
Another show stopping gardening feature will be the Instant Garden Challenge. Sponsored by Cheddar Garden Centre, this innovative competition on each day of the show will star different competing teams drawn from gardening clubs. Each gardening team will be tasked with creating an instant garden using a selection of plants and flowers supplied.
Visitors can view the UK National Giant Vegetables Championships - many needing forklift trucks to lift them on to the scales.
Giant and petite dahlias will also be on display at the National Dahlia Society Show, the world's largest event dedicated to these blooms.
Other features at the show include the Food Halls with local delicacies like cider, cheese, chutneys and pasties to sample and buy - and for culinary inspiration, food lovers will need to look no further than the daily cookery demonstrations in the Cookery Theatre. Three high profile chefs from the South West will be showing off their skills to conjure up fresh tasty meals for all occasions, using local ingredients in a variety of signature dishes.
A day at the National Gardening Show is not just for keen gardeners but also all the family with lots of children's favourites, such as the annual scarecrow competition, story-telling and and the popular woodland trail.
