Cumbrian ironmonger's shop to close

Published: 5 March 2014
An ironmonger who has worked in his Cumbrian shop since he was a schoolboy is now closing down the business for good.
Graham Smith started working at Smith and Harrison in Ulverston on Saturdays while he was still at school, and went straight on to become a full-time employee.

The shop was set up in 1957 by Alan Smith and Bob Harrison, since when it has relocated in the town. Graham Smith took on the ownership in 1994, and has maintained the store's traditional approach to retailing ironmongery, offering a wide variety of goods in small quantities.

Mr Smith, who is now 50, says he will be selling the premises.
