A Somerset garden centre is inviting local children to help add a splash of paint to its 30th anniversary celebrations through free tile-painting sessions.

Monkton Elm Garden and Pet Centre near Heathfield is hosting the terracotta-tile-painting event all this week to correspond with the half-term holiday. The finished result will be a big gardening-themed '30' which the centre is planning to unveil next month.

Monkton's general manager Norma Moore said: "As part of our 30 week-long celebrations starting in March, we would like to have a display of tiles featuring a big 30 in the middle and we thought it would be wonderful to involve children from the area to help create this.

"The display will be unveiled for our anniversary launch on Saturday, March 10 by the garden centre's owners David and Luella Bellman. The tiles will be on display until September."

The tile-painting sessions are being run on a first-come, first-served basis until Friday, February 19.
