Totally: Things picked up on Monday

Well, Monday's attendance at Totally DIY felt considerably better than Sunday.
At times there was a discernible buzz in the hall. And at mid-day on Tuesday (when historically the show would have reached its dying-down phase), it was busier than at any time in the previous two days - and visitors were still coming in. What are we to make of this late surge? Visitors who hadn't been able to get there on Sunday, arriving later than planned? Possibly. But my money's on the alternative explanation: that mid-week is the quiet time for retailers now, and the time when they are able to take time out to go to shows. Clearly the organisers of Totally DIY are going be having some tough discussions about where the show goes from here - for what it's worth, my view is that mid-week opening must be a part of any development/recovery plan.

Very poor show compared to last year, and the signage dreadful, wondering around lost for a while. Very poor indeed. As I suspect most of the exhibitors thought !! And companies should not try the " free gift " trick and then make out they have given them all away on the first day..

What a poor show, 'A Total Waste Of Time', there was no (or very little) direction from the NEC Train Station and then a 20 minute walk from Hall 1 (if you managed to get a member of staff who knew what you were asking) or a 15 minute wait in the cold for a bus.
What a waste of time and effort for those companies that did exhibit this year.

After struggling in the snow on Sunday and travelling all the way up from London I was very disappointed to see that companies like Dulux, Henkel, Crown and many other bigger brand names were not present at this show. The larger companies that were present like Harris, Oracstar had such small stands with not much of a range on display at all and were only there to show there loyalty and presence. The DIY show now has become a total waste of time and I can 100% assure the organisers that my company shall no longer be attending this event in the future even if it is in the next hall to the spring fair that we do attend every year. The organiser really need to re think on how to take this back to the glory the show was 15 years ago when held in London. I suggest the exhibitors just exhibit in the volume halls of the spring fair!

Regarding your comment that "Tuesday lunchtime was busier than the rest of the former 2days", we can tell you that 80% of these people were just casual/general public, retirees etc.
The vast majority we met on Tuesday had an opening comment along the lines of "I am nothing to do with Tools or Diy but..."

The show was much smaller this year - I was quite disappointed. Also, the signposting at the NEC is unbelievably poor and we struggled to find the hall. The car parking staff had not even heard of Totally DIY and only knew about the Spring Show -so at first we wondered if we had come on the wrong day!
