B&Q: 'We are paying more than living wage to all'

Published: 7 April 2016
B&Q has asked diyweek.net to clarify its position on payment of the new National Living Wage (NLW).
In a statement it said: "In February this year, we announced that from 1 April 2016 our minimum rate would be £7.66 per hour which is 46p more than the National Living Wage of £7.20 per hour. This is our minimum rate for all employees, regardless of age, not just those 25 years and over who are covered by the National Living Wage.

"B&Q is committed to being a good payer and our overall package is one of the best in retail, with benefits that include a performance bonus, market-leading pension scheme with up to 14% employer contribution, a ShareSave scheme and five weeks holiday a year."

They say they are giving me two years compensation. they are not. They are just not taking away my money for two years so you all forget about it.

As a part time member of BQ I will loose 2400 a year. It's a disgrace directors and Ceo loose nothing, I won't be able to afford my mortgage payments, but no one seems to care. Remember if they get away with it it might be your employer who does it next, please sign the online petition.

That's lovely that they want to attempt to make out they're so delightful and doing the good thing, but what about the missing bonuses, such as 25 a month for forklift driving - that's 300 a year, 10 a month for first aid ( 120 a year), plus the two bonuses (3% of annual salary).

This 'extra' pay doesn't come anywhere near making up for the loss of benefits that full time employees have earned for years.
