B&Q Ireland fined €250k after customer death
Mr Michael O'Rourke was killed in March 2009 by a fencing bundle, which fell approximately four metres from the top of a stack. The incident took place in the Belgard Road branch of B&Q in Tallaght.

B&Q representative Ronald Metcaffe pleaded guilty to the health and safety breach, offering Mr O'Rourke's family the firm's deepest sympathy. He also assured the court that the company, which has no previous convictions, had taken steps to ensure an incident of this nature never happens again.

The company was also ordered to pay almost €11,000 in costs.
