Aldi model contributed to Omega Wolf administration

Published: 23 September 2009
In its report to creditors issued earlier this month, KPMG, appointed administrators to Omega Wolf in July this year, outlined the reasons behind the decision to place the company in administration.
One of them main contributing factors was the supplier's business relationship with discount supermarket chain Aldi, which sold Omega Wolf products under the Powercraft brand.

The report states: "The periodic nature of the Aldi business resulted in significant fluctuations in the funding requirements of the company throughout the year." However, it was the company's inability to secure additional funding that resulted in them being unable to make "key payments to creditors and were unable to obtain the release of direct sales stock that had arrived in the UK from Far East suppliers."

The company owed £544k to its trade creditors, including more than £118k to media company Mediavest (Leeds) and more than £100k to UK-based freight company PFE Express.

A letter from KPMG this week stated: "It is unlikely that there will be sufficient funds to enable a distribution to be made to unsecured creditors."

In reply to Watts problem...no spark at plug. Sounds like you may have a faulty oil sensor switch. Remove the lead from the switch and try starting generator.

Aldi now markets tools under the "Workzone" brand. Some years ago I bought a Power Craft router but missed out on the table. This week I purchased a Workzone table; The corresponding Workzone router is identical to mine. The table box says it's intended for a Workzone router in particular. The instructions having been poorly editied, it says there that it is intended for my Power Craft router.
Those having Power Craft problems - look for the Workzone equivalents!

Anybody got any idea who can repair this item? Its a petrol generator purchased in 2005 and only kept as a backup. It use over the years has amounted to no more than 5 hours.
Symptoms: no spark despite new plug.

Aldi can be very annoying when it comes to tool sales. They never stock the consumables, and many of the airtools they sometimes have in need more power than the compressor they at times sell can produce.

I have a Powercraft PC270/09 air compressor which has gone faulty. I need an outlet valve and the tube with end fittins which connect at the compressor and the other end to the air hose reel which I bought with the compressor. I know the company that make them have gone bust.I bought an outlet valve from toolstation but it is a different type). Does anyone know if any other company stocks the powercrafr parts.

I think the standards have dropped. The designs and performance has been very good but the PKB-810 Hammer Drill if you drill down into Concrete the Spindle key-way drops out. Their tools have been better in the past but you pay for what you get.

Remember people.
These are not professional tools.
I have purchased a few and in general am happy with the quality.
Should you have a faulty product within the guarantee period it is Aldi's responsability to deal with the repair or replacement. Yo do not have to call the premiyum rate help line / send the item back or any other action that they may wish to say. Just return item to the store with your recipt & quote the Sale of goods act.

So many people think they can buy a tool and just use it, read the instructions carefully. To the gent with the recipricating saw, did you twist the end jaw release fully whilst inserting the
blade,it is a bit stiff but does work.

Not all Powercraft tools sold by Aldi are/were supplied by Omega Wolf. Check the packaging carefully. The name of the supplier is usually clearly quoted on the box and several other suppliers are named.
Still, it's a shame that Omega Wolf has gone. Their generators in particular were terrific value.

As it says above, you are covered by the Sale of Goods act which means that your contract is with Aldi not Omega Wolf / Powercraft. Aldi have a legal requirement to honour the warranty.

After three charges the battery charger went up in smoke I rang help line but could not get an answer.went to local Aldi, saw the manager who was very helfull, got a call from whoever is dealing with warranties, told them the problem. Guess what ? A new charger arrived this morning. Good service, no complaints.

Sorry to see company going under. i have bought several powercraft items and was searching for belot sander when I read of this article. In defence of Aldi I have never had any problems returning items. I have had similar problems of missing parts and cannot understand why all boxes are not securely sealed.

I have bought a couple electrical products from Aldi and in both cases have had to return them - the first item more than once. Because of the dismal customer service offered by Aldi you are obliged to return items direct to the supplier yourself. It was only when one of these items was 'returned to sender' that I found out Omega Wolf was in adinistration. This is a shame for those involved but the sooner I can contribute to Aldi's overdue demise the better. A shop with shamefully terrible customer service - I shall not be returning and would not recommend the place or its products to anyone.

I'm disappointed to hear of the demise of Omega Wolf, as I've purchased many Power Craft tools from Aldi. All have been excellent value and continue to give good service. In fact I've not had a single problem with any item. What a shame they are no more.

mine packed in the 5th time I used it. turns out the company was bankrupt around the time they went on sale. i did phone warranty helpline, they collected it to repair but returned it to me in the same state. got my money back yesterday from aldi's in pontypridd when i complained to the manager. they take your money its only fair they deal with the fall out when it goes wrong
